Milan Design Week 2024

The quickening heartbeat, the palpable excitement in the air, and the scent of creativity that filled every corner of the city – that was our adventure at Milan Design Week 2024. A journey beyond the ordinary, where design and friendship intertwined in an unforgettable embrace, turning each moment into a profoundly meaningful and inspiring experience.

A Global Union of Friendship and Collaboration

In the bustling heart of Milan, the world came together in a warm and universal embrace. Beyond borders and linguistic barriers, a part of our Italian team, comprised of Filippo Salbini, Francesco Ferrara, Roberta Apuleo, and Alfonso Mellone, welcomed, gathered, and guided over 20 friends from every corner of the globe under the banner of friendship. Clients, designers, developers, and other industry professionals from the United States, Sweden, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia, and China: an extraordinary map of friendship drawn in the colors of diversity. And then, on an enchanted evening, the frenetic rhythm of daily life paused, making room for a dinner illuminated by laughter, sharing, and genuine joy. A moment of pure connection that made tangible the universal power of friendship and collaboration.

Salone del Mobile.Milano: Epicenter of Global Design

FuoriSalone 2024: Exploring Excellence in the Heart of Milan

In the lively streets of Milan, we discovered the pulsating heart of design: sacred places where aesthetics and functionality merge in perfect harmony. We breathed in the very essence of Italian design, letting inspiration guide us on a timeless journey. Among the lights of the most prestigious showrooms, we visited the iconic venues of the most prestigious brands such as:

  • Agape
  • Valcucine
  • Modulnova
  • Giorgetti
  • Amura
  • Rugiano
  • Boffi
  • Roche Bobois
  • Gallotti&Radice

The Grand Tour of Design: Discovering Excellence

The pinnacle of our experience was The Grand Tour of Design, an epic journey organized with Atlas Concorde. On April 19th, we moved to Emilia Romagna for a guided tour of this extraordinary globally significant company. In Atlas Concorde’s grand showroom, we had the opportunity to explore their exclusive collections, admiring the greatness, professionalism, and enthusiasm that characterize this extraordinary company.

And as we all dined together, we strengthened the bonds of friendship and respect that unite us indissolubly.

But it didn’t end there: we then moved to Maranello for a tour of the Ferrari Museum. Here, we had an extraordinary experience, being able to admire not only Ferrari’s iconic cars but also trophies, Formula One cars, engines, and other breathtaking design gems.

Thank You for an Unforgettable Edition and a Preview of Milan Design Week 2025

We sincerely thank everyone who made this magical adventure possible: friends, clients, and partners. Your support, companionship, and passion are the lifeblood that fuels our commitment to design.

With hearts full of gratitude, we eagerly await the next chapter of our story at Milan Design Week 2025. A new chapter of emotions, inspirations, and friendship, ready to be written with the same fervent passion as always.

Lake Como

We decided to conclude our Exclusive Design Week 2023 in a splendid location, hosting our friends for lunch at Lake Como. No work here… just chatting and having fun with friends!

Our job is beautiful, because it allows us to have relationships based on sincere esteem, mutual trust and solid friendships.

We are really lucky!

Our Australia manager Vittoria Chiarilli is an Interior Designer. She has a small studio called Marly Hemisphere which operates out of Melbourne Australia.

She has been in Milano for the Salone del Mobile and then we interviewed her in Pagani.

Childhood

She has always been artistic as a child.

“As a very young girl l would accompany my father to his work – he was a builder and l would find small objects on his building sites and make sculptures to take home and show my mum. I learned to sew at 14 and draft all my own patterns for clothes l made. I was happiest when l was creating and making things.”

Favourite design style

Some of her favourite design styles are: Neo Classic, Post Modern, Scandinavian, Midcentury Modern and Art Deco.

Functionality or appeal?

When asked if she prefers functionality or appeal she says she prefers to try to combine both.

“It means l can have something look beautiful but also importantly provide the client with an easy to use space that meets most of their needs

What are a couple of questions you’d ask to discover your client’s requirements?

Some of the questions she usually asks a client are:

  • what are you trying to achieve in the space?
  • are we using some existing items/furniture you have
  • how do you live in the space
  • Are you looking for locally made furniture or are you wanting to consider furniture manufactured overseas
  • And then most importantly what is your budget”

These are important questions to ask a client to begin a good collaboration.

Keeping up with industry changes and with the latest Interior Design styles

Keeping up with industry changes is at times difficult in a fast changing world.

“I try where l can to go to trade shows such as Salone del Mobile which often provide a great source of inspiration… I keep myself up to date with the latest design styles by following interior designers and architects on instagram and the internet that interest me.”

It’s also important working in collaboration with other designers.

Imagine your client asks you to design a room in a way that is visually pleasing but not practical. How would you react?

“If they are just wanting a room/space to look beautiful and it be never used then we don’t need to be practical, but if the space is an area that is used frequently it is my job to highlight to the client the disadvantages of being in a space that is not practical.”

It’s important to create spaces that are thoughtful, reflect the client’s personality and ultimately give the client great satisfaction to move within these spaces.

When a client rejects all your design concepts

The design process needs to be a collaboration between client and designer and in order to achieve this successfully there must be a level of trust from the client.

“When a client rejects all my design concepts it usually means they have perhaps not chosen the right designer for their project. Initial meetings with clients are crucial, they establish if we will be able to work together and if there is a potential to clash.”

Why Salbini for the supply of European design products?

Using a company like Salbini means that clients are dealing directly with an agent out of Italy. One of the benefits is that a customer can buy different type of products all through one agent

Moreover, “Things are done more quickly if there is an issue or drama.” Another reason would be cost saving. It’s all advantageous.

With Salbini Experience we will open the doors of the best Italian companies to you.

Do you need to carry out projects with the best design products? Come to Italy!

Chan Yoon is our South Korea Manager and came to visit us in Italy in June 2022.

Before going to Milan together for the Salone del Mobile 2022, Chan was our guest in Southern Italy

It was a pleasure meeting him and having the opportunity of interviewing him. He has been part of our family for more than 2 years.

The first contact and collaboration with us

Chan met us for the first time as a client and he was very satisfied with the service:

“It was not about money, but it was more about solving my problem to make my room the most beautiful place in the world.”

And that’s how he got confidence and decided to work with us.

His role

“At the beginning, I was a one-man show. Now my business has gone to 5 people”.

He handles B2B projects, sometimes B2C as well, meeting the clients.

The interesting aspects of his job

There are two interesting aspects in Chan’s job: being able to provide great furniture to his customers; being able to provide new brands in South Korea and seeing excitement in the clients.

Chan Yoon is an interior designer, founder of Stretta Furniture and Stretta Studio in Seoul

Favorite brands

When asked what are his favorite brands, Chan told us that what he loves more about Italian furniture is that they make the best use of materials.

“The very first furniture that I came to import was Poltrona Frau. I really love their leather and its luxurious use”.

He also appreciates DV Home and Misuraemme.

The future of the market in South Korea

“I think that our company could become number one in terms of luxury brands”.

The meeting with the Italian team

Chan had the opportunity to spend time with our Italian team to take care of the details of some projects under construction in South Korea and also to spend some relaxing moments on the Amalfi Coast, in Pompeii, Salerno and with the Salbini family.

What a great experience!

The Salone del Mobile is a very important event for the whole industry. Experiencing the 2022 edition with international managers and collaborators was fantastic

The joy of our customers who have selected the products for their projects makes us proud

The satisfied faces of all the participants make us understand that these occasions are to be repeated.

Salbini Experience Tom Landry II

Designer Tom Landry II was our guest in Italy twice in September and December 2021, to live the “Salbini Experience”, our exclusive journey into the world of Italian design.

The welcome

He flew from America to Italy. In Milan he was welcomed by our Managers Filippo and Francesco, with whom he spent a few weeks in northern Italy, where he had the opportunity to touch and feel the high quality of the products, visiting the headquarters, the production plants and the showrooms of the best Italian brands.

The best Italian companies open their doors

To best meet the needs of Tom, who is carrying out some important projects with us in North America, we have selected some of the best Italian brands of furniture, lighting, carpets, bathroom and outdoor products.

With him we met many business managers, who were able to describe and show him the characteristics and manufacture of the products.

Tom experienced first hand the products of the following brands:

What an exciting experience for a designer!

Not only the products impressed Tom, but also the friendliness received during the weeks in Italy.

“I was fascinated by the quality of the materials and greatly appreciated the hospitality of the Italians.”

Tom Landry II

After his return to America, Tom wrote us what he thinks of the Salbini Experience:

“I had the extraordinary opportunity to be personally escorted to countless Italian luxury showrooms and factories throughout Italy by Salbini.

It was the highlight of my 25 year career!

The personalized journey was complemented by Filippo’s breadth of industry knowledge and his intense pride of his native land and its culture- providing for an all around exceptional experience.

At each venue, we were greeted by the respective staff – sometimes the owner/founder – for a personal tour of the manufacturer’s premises that included a verbal history and evolution of the brand.

I was able to firsthand experience the design ethos of the brand, the employed ergonomics of the construction and the intricate details of the upholstery and millwork not commonly found on the web. In some locations, we were given a behind the scenes tour of how each iconic piece is handcrafted by Italian artisans, how the leather is processed & cut and the overall personal care taken to the craft of each piece.

Unlike the annual Salone de Mobile in Milan, during my showroom and factory visits with Salbini, I was able to make fabric selections, plan future projects and spend as much time as I required experiencing each manufacturer showroom.

Filippo encouraged me to spend as much time as I needed to engage each brand carefully in order to provide my clientele with first hand knowledge of the comfort, construction, craft and aesthetic of the brands I requested to experience.

As the premier consolidator of European luxury furniture, finishes and building materials, Salbini has the ability to bring Europe to your doorstep, quite literally! There’s no longer a need to wonder how to get something from Europe to North America for a client. Salbini handles the entire process- flawlessly. The Salbini Experience is on a level of its own.”

Tom Landry II

From north to south Italy to meet the team

Tom also had the opportunity to spend time with the other members of our Italian team, to better plan the work for ongoing projects in North America and also to spend some relaxing moments with the Salbini family.

With Salbini Experience we will open the doors of the best Italian companies to you.
